The Fall 2026 Season begins with We The People

On Saturday, September 19th, Hearing in Color’s resident ensemble Chroma presented their first full concert of the year with We the People, a program exploring the evolving American story through music that asks who is remembered, who belongs, and how we might imagine a more inclusive future together. After one performance on September 2nd was rescheduled due to heat advisory, the opening concert of the season shifted to a rainy Saturday at Williams Park Fieldhouse.

Repertoire included pieces like Jasmine Barnes’ Normal Never Was which urges the listener to not yearn for a pre-COVID pandemic world, since that “normal” world was still filled with injustice, violence, and inequity. Chroma performed two commissions written for the ensemble, Fiat Justitia by Steve Wallace and In Di Riva by Jalen Scott. We were honored to be joined in the audience by arranger of American Requiem Michael R. Oldham, and composer of Valentina, Rudy E. Rudolph.
